Sports Massage
Sports deep tissue massage is a fairly intense massage aiming to penetrate into the deeper tissues of the body to relieve muscle tightness. It can improve circulation and movement of intramuscular biochemicals like lactic acid and lymphatic fluid, aiding recovery after prolonged exercise or activity.
This type of massage is a particularly common course of treatment for athletes and those partaking in regular sport or intensive repetitive activity. However, it's also a popular choice for those seeking relief from persistent muscular pain.
Is Sports Massage for me?
A deep tissue massage is much more extreme than a 'health-spa' style massage. It involves working through multiple layers of muscle and tracing the source of the injury or pain and working the areas in-between. I look at trigger points and muscle movement chains to diagnose and treat every patient individually.
How do I know if this is what I need?
Common complaints that respond well to sports massage include:
-
Frozen Shoulder
-
Tennis Elbow
-
Plantar Fasciitis
-
Aching and Stiff Muscles
-
Strains, Sprains and Pulls
What if I'm not sporty, will I still feel the benefit?
You really don't have to be an athlete to benefit from deep tissue massage. Many of my patients are suffering from acute injuries, repetitive strains or intermittent repeated painful episodes. These are as likely to occur in the garden or office as the sports field!
